The most important SEO components

Have you ever wonder what are the most important search engine optimization components?

First of all, I think SEO can be divided into 2 parts – on-page SEO, and off-page SEO. On-page SEO refers to all the possible SEO work you can possibly perform on a webpage. Off-page SEO refers to the work that you can do, away from the physical site, to enhance SEO results.

On-page SEO contains the following:

  • Title
  • Meta keyword
  • Meta description
  • Headings
  • Content
  • Image alt
  • URL
  • Internal links

If I only can make 1 single change on the page for SEO purpose, I would work on the title.

In the search result page of Google, the title of the page is the most prominent apart from all the other listings.  And search engines do consider the title as a true reflection of the page’s content.

Therefore, work hard on the title.  Keyword stuffing is not so cool – Google is only going to show 65 characters of the title.  I think 95 characters is a moderate number.  If you have decided to have more than 65 characters, make sure the key phrases to be targeted are within the first 65 characters.
