SEO for Flash
For a long time, SEO specialists would recommend:
1. Do not include important information in flash format only
2. When flash is present, make sure the important information is repeated in the form of simple text within that page
Now it has changed. Google Webmaster Blog has recently announced a technology break-through in Flash SEO.
In a nutshell:
- Google can now read SWF files
- Google can now read the textual information within the flash file
- However FLV files, like the ones used in YouTube, would not be indexed
- If the flash is executed by JavaScript, it is likely that it would not be indexed
- If the flash file attaches some external files, no matter what it is, it won’t be indexed
- Flash content written in bidirectional languages would not be indexed
Google ‘sees’ the flash just like a human, by ‘clicking buttons’, ‘entering input’ etc, and remembers all the textual contents of the flash file. Google’s algorithm regarding the flash file would be more effective by utilizing Adobe’s new Searchable SWF library.
To get your flash file indexed, you do not need to do anything.
