Under SEO
Have you ever wonder what are the most important search engine optimization components?
First of all, I think SEO can be divided into 2 parts - on-page SEO, and off-page SEO. On-page SEO refers to all the possible SEO work you can possibly perform on a webpage. Off-page SEO refers to the work that you can do, away from the physical site, to enhance SEO results.
On-page SEO contains the following:
- Title
- Meta keyword
- Meta description
- Headings
- Content
- Image alt
- URL
- Internal links
If I only can make 1 single change on the page for SEO purpose, I would work on the title.
In the search result page of Google, the title of the page is the most prominent apart from all the other listings. And search engines do consider the title as a true reflection of the page’s content.
Therefore, work hard on the title. Keyword stuffing is not so cool - Google is only going to show 65 characters of the title. I think 95 characters is a moderate number. If you have decided to have more than 65 characters, make sure the key phrases to be targeted are within the first 65 characters.

Under Search Engine+ Wiki
Wikipedia is a great invention. You can pretty much find everything on there.
The traditional way (for me) is to Google for something I want. And it is very likely that a Wiki entry is listed within the top 5 results.
Apparently the new Cuil search engine displays a lot of Wiki results as well.
However, do you know that there is a search engine dedicated to search only the Wikipedia?
Powerset is designed just for this purpose.
Powerset enables you to:
1. Discover Factz
For most people, places and things, Powerset shows a summary of Factz from across Wikipedia.
2. Unlock Meaning
Powerset finds articles related to the meaning of your query. And sometimes even direct answers.
3. Scan Summaries
Powerset summarizes pages for easy browsing, with tools that follow you as you read and explore.
It is of course easy to use - type in a search query, click ‘enter’, and there you go.

Recently launched is the new search engine - Cuil.
Founded by an ex-Google employee, Cuil claims to provide a better searching environment for internet users. In fact Cuil has indexed 121,617,892,992 pages at the time of writing - about 3 times more than Google.
But more pages indexed doesn’t really mean better. It is more important that when people are searching, they would be able to find what they want.
As opposed to Google, Cuil uses an all-black design on the homepage. After typing the search query, if you are lucky enough not to have the “server overload” error, then you would be presented a search result page, white in background, having a layout like a news / magazine website. Each entry would have a thumbnail beside it.
I searched for “best web ezy” and I have half of the results leading to this blog, another half leading to BlogCatalogue. The thumbnails are not screenshots - some seems like they are randomly generated!
It also has a search result (indeed, #2 result) which leads to a page that I took down about 1/2 year ago.
And I cannot find information on how to submit websites to this search engine. I searched for “submit to cuil” and I got presented results which are absolutely irrelevant.
I guess it might still take some time for Cuil to make things right. I am looking forward to a better Cuil.

Under Affiliate Marketing
I have been with PepperJam Network for a few weeks now. I found that PepperJam Network is indeed a very lucrative network for publishers.
I have a read through the advertisers’ offers and would like to introduce you my top 5 picks. I choose these 5 not just because of how much they pay (but that’s one important factor). To be in my top 5 list, they would also need to be a legitimate product. No gambling or religious attack etc. I am reluctant to promote weight loss products, too. Sorry it is my own opinion, but well, it is my blog.
Here you go, my hand-picked top-5 list:
1. BooksFree.com
BooksFree
offers a CPA (cost per acquisition) of $18. The website itself has a PageRank of 5, hence it should be a reliable merchant (at least it has been around quite sometime and is relatively important in Google’s eyes). Cookie Duration is 45 days.
BooksFree
offers unlimited rentals of paperback, CD and MP3-CD audio books. Gift membership and a full retail section also available.
Join now to get 20% Off Your First Month at Booksfree.com
This offer is best to be promoted on blogs relating to book reviews, literature etc.
2. MacSpeech.com
MacSpeech.com
offers a revenue share of 8%. For the $199 MacSpeech Dictate that they are featuring on the homepage, that’s effectively a CPA of $15.92.
The website itself also has a PageRank of 5. Cookie duration is 30 days.
Are you using a Mac? Feel lazy typing? This is the perfect product for you. It is actually the best speech recognition software around. The MacSpeech Dictate is the winner of Mac World 2008s Best in Show Award.
MacSpeech Dictate stop typing and start talking, 2008 Mac Worlds Best of Show! Order Today!
This offer is best to be promoted on blogs related to technologies, especially blogs which are Mac focused.
3. iPodJuice.com
iPod is such a popular toy! However, there are lots of iPods out there which are not quite old enough to be thrown away, but requires a replacement battery.
According to their statistics, 2 Million more iPods will need batteries each month! And the iPhones will also need replacement batteries.
Their payout is 15% with a cookie duration of 60 days. The products are only from $29. Hence you will get $4.35 per sale.
However, due to the popularity of iPods and iPhones, this product is a lot easier to sell than the above 2 offers.
28 Million iPods Already Need Battery Replacements. iPodJuice.com iPod Replacement Batteries Come with a 10 Year Guarantee!
This offer is best to be promoted on blogs related to mp3 music, iPod / iPhone sites, ringtone download sites, and Mac related sites etc.
4. Mployd
There are always people looking for jobs. Recruitment agents becomes useful as they act as a bridge between the employers and potential employees.
Mployd offers a 20% commission and a cookie duration time of 45 days.
Looking for a new job?
This is best to be put on all recruitment resources website.
5. Edge Tech Corp
If you are reading this, it is likely that you are using a computer / PDA / iPhone… whatever, you will need RAM / Flash cards etc.
Which means, whoever sees this ad, he/she would have the need for the products - memory!
Edge Tech Corp
sells memory for upgrade, flash products eg. SD cards, flash drives etc. They are just so easy to sell.
They offer a 9% sales commission and 45 days cookie duration.
And I think this line is the most powerful:
Free Shipping On Orders Over $50! Computer Memory Upgrades at EdgeTechCorp.com!
It is so easy to buy memory products for over $50.
This is best to be placed on tech / computer / widget related blogs.

Google recently announced the launch of Knol.
What is being considered a Knol? A knol is an authoritative article about a specific topic.
Knols were written by authoritative people who actually knows about the topics. Nowadays, Knol is open for everyone.
Every Knol would have an author (or group of authors) who put their name behind their content. The content represents their knowledge and opinion.
Google is trying to introduce “moderated collaboration”. Readers can suggest or comment on the articles, and the authors would have control over what they have published.
Bonus: Google has an agreement with the New Yorker magazine which allows any author to add one cartoon per knol from the New Yorker’s extensive cartoon repository.
Know something? Want to share? Knol it.
