5 Rules to be successful in blogging

How can you be successful in blogging?  It is not just about posting once in a while with what you had for lunch (well, John Chow is an exception).  To be successful, you need to be able to:

1. Identify your target audience - research for a lucrative niche that you would really love to target.  Then, think about who would actually be interested in your niche.

2. Market your product effectively - research for all marketing channels available and choose the most effective ones.  Market through them and measure the results.

3. Plan your steps properly - make a goal and plan your ways towards it.  Don’t take up 100 tasks and plan to finish it overnight.  Plan ahead what and when to launch.

4. Organize - be an organized person and stick to it.  Eg. spend 1 hour in research, 2 hours to write, 2 hours to market etc.

5. Expand your niche - now you have a nice blog running, what else can be added to it?  If you blog about superheroes and sells action figures on your site, think about trading cards.  Even think about the Batmobile duvet covers.

Get your Download Day Certificate

Have you downloaded Firefox 3?  During the 24-hour period, there was over 8 million downloads recorded.  Currently the result is being analysed by the Guinness team.

At the time of writing this article, the download record has just break through 9 million.

No matter Firefox 3 can make it to the world record, we should all be rewarded!  Therefore, Firefox is presenting a download day certificate for all people downloaded the latest browser software.  You should quickly go grab yours!

I have already installed Firefox 3 and my general impression towards it is: it is fast!  It makes loading of website a lot faster than the previous version (which was known to load webpages faster than IE).  I don’t quite like the address bar though - too many text when I tried to type something.

Why is team work important in IT

As a freelancer, there are always some jobs that we don’t have to interact with others.  However, team work is important when it goes to bigger projects.  It is always true that you don’t know everything.  Incorporating different talents in a team can surely multiply the efficiency and outcome.

Many of us claim to be good team mates.  But then when the chance comes, does the ‘team’ really work?

When you are in a team that doesn’t really look like a team, what can you do to make this work?  You can’t just blame the team leader for not organizing a meeting etc.  Remember, you are one of the team members.  You do have to do something to make it happen.

The most important part is that you should keep in mind you and the rest of the team have a common goal.  Usually it is a project that you are working on.  Base on that, you can define what you need to work on and try to cooperate with the others.  Your participation is very important.  Don’t just step back and blame the situation.

On the other hand, don’t think that you know everything and that everybody need to listen to you.  Be open-minded and listen to what the others have.

Your existence is not to work on whatever you like.  Your existence in a team is to help your team mates and your team leader.  Your participation and knowledge would help your team grow.  And the knowledge of your team mates would help you grow.

Last but not least, working in a team is fun!  Much better than working on your own.  You also get someone to give you a second opinion when you need, or an extra helping hand when you are in trouble.

Wanna buy my blog?

I just found this website and it offers evaluation service for blogs.

All I did was answering 19 questions about the traffic & money earned from the blog etc. And it would display an estimation of how much my blog is worth.

Well, I am not sure who would actually buy my blog at this price. But if someone is interested, and would offer something similar to this price, I think I would seriously consider it.

After all, maintaining this blog is not about money (of course, good if I can get more money). It is about my passion towards the industry. I am quite happy with what I have right now.
